The Digital Herbarium is a fully searchable database of specimen images and data serving as an online collection of the specimen records. DigiMus2.0, the latest version software from the Bioinformatics Centre of National Institute of Oceanography (NIO), for the Digital Herbarium of seaweed specimen records.
Digimus2.0 is developed for the representation of Herbarium specimens and associated information. It provides privileges for external users to create their database and add records about seaweed specimens.
The users can add information such as Scientific name, Hierarchy, Synonyms, Common name, Distribution data (Survey/Field trip and cruise), Description data, Ecology data, Economic importance and images. The data associated with the collections can be corrected and updated when needed.
DigiMus2.0 helps the user to obtain high quality and more relevant data on the collected specimens. This software is useful for all, students researchers and everyone interested in the marine environment. Details of the species are mentioned in the herbarium which helps the user to study their habitat, geographical location and their importance in the marine as well as the surrounding environment. Conservation of these species becomes easier as their habitats are known.
